A Successful 2016-2017 Year
June 30 will mark the end of ASSiST's first fiscal year existing as a 501c3, and it has been a busy and successful season. We are proud of what we have accomplished in our first year which includes:
Providing 501c3 financial assistance to six member teams. Because these teams are private and not affiliated with any public entity, fund raising can be challenging. However, being part of the ASSiST network allows each team to fundraise with all the benefits of a 501c3 organization. As team's secured donors, the donor would give the donation to ASSiST who would then regrant 100% of the money to the designated team. In total, ASSiST was able to receive and regrant a total over $30,000 to the six member teams which allowed each team to fund their activities for the 2016-17 season.
Providing mentoring and assistance to team members and coaches on an as needed basis. This mentoring and assistance could take the form of one-on-one assistance or workshops on topics such as java programming, CAD, 3D printing, etc.
Multiple public presentations. ASSiST coordinated multiple public and private presentations in a variety of venues using volunteers from the member teams. Events included large public events like Comicpalooza, the Houston MiniMaker Faire, and SpaceCom, as well as smaller private events like UTC Aerospace's Take Your Child to Work Day or the Gulf Coast HomeSchool Expo. We hosted general informational meetings at the public library in our area and volunteered for the library's makerspace public activities. The Board will be meeting this summer to close out this season and set goals for the upcoming year. Stay tuned for more details!
